Visit Vike Minnesgård
a typical Gotlandic coastal farm!
Close to the sea, near Slite
Vike Minnesgård is closed from the middle of august 2024 untill june 2025, but possible to visit any time, though you cannot have coffee or go into the buildings. But still, beautiful to visit and to have a walk in the garden and meadow down to the sea.
Vike was first mentioned in the early 1700’s, although the farm as it stands today is ”only” 200 years old. The farm remains as it was left 70 years ago.
The dwelling house has the floorplan of a typical Gotlandical ”parstuga” (pair cottage). A small chamber and kitchen are located in the middle, with the main living room on the south side and the fine parlour on the north.
In the house yard there is also a detached wing containing the brewer house with bake oven and a place for laundry.
Vike is run by a nonprofit foundation, care and maintenance of the farm is done by volunteers to preserve this unique historical and cultural heritage.
The beautiful garden is being restored, after being abandoned for many years. You will find many Gotlandic herbs and a 350 years old hops patch.
East of the garden is a meadow cared for in traditional ways.
A path leads through the beautiful meadow to the shore where you will find a newly restored fishing hut with an exhibition of life at the seashore (photos. Text in swedish, not translated).
